For this year's London Fashion Week, we supported womenswear brand RIXO with an all-electric Jaguar I-PACE, helping them chauffeur their VIPs and models around town.

The label – started by Henrietta Rix and Orlagh McCloskey in 2015 – has gone on to dominate the contemporary market with easy-to-wear, high-quality materials evoking a wanderlust and free spirit, which is ever so THE OUT.

We wanted to dig a little deeper behind the RIXO brand, so we sat down with both founders for a few minutes to talk about all things travel, fashion and road trips.

Here’s what they had to say…

TO: What was the inspiration behind starting RIXO?

RIXO: We started RIXO from the living room of our student house, when we were both studying at The University of Arts London. We saw a gap in the contemporary womenswear market for vintage inspired feminine pieces made with high quality materials. We took the plunge and went for it, turning our student house into an office, studio and warehouse – using it as a place to design the prints and dresses, hold wholesale appointments and even pick and pack our online orders! Our inspiration has always been our love for vintage fashion and creating pieces to make our #humansofrixo feel the best versions of themselves.

THE OUT (TO): What is your most memorable road trip?

Orlagh McCloskey (OM): Henrietta and I went on a California road trip during our time at uni. It was a great trip starting in San Francisco and ending in Vegas. Santa Barbara was amazing and so was Napa Valley!

TO: The best place to visit when you’re not working, that’s outside of London?

Henrietta Rix (HR): I love visiting Wales, going back to our holiday family home where I spent my childhood summers. It’s the perfect place to go for a reset… There’s no signal so my phone gets very little attention which is perfect for a break away from London. There’s a river that runs through the back garden and mountains in every direction you look – when I’m there, I spend as much time as I can outside.

OM: Oxford is beautiful and not too far from London. On the list is to get to Cornwall – I’m making that my next trip.

TO: What do you both do to chill out?

OM: I live near Gunnersbury park and I love going for a nice walk there with my partner – being outdoors is great!

TO: The LFW presentation was beautiful. How stressful was it to coordinate?

RIXO: We have a great team at RIXO, who all came together and worked tremendously hard to make the presentation happen. There’s always an element of stress during fashion week but that’s part of the excitement! We do everything internationally so don’t have external production teams but that way we can control everything ourselves. The long hours and busy days were so worth it for us all when we saw the collection looking beautiful in the Barbican Conservatory and how much our guests enjoyed it. It was such a proud moment for us both!

TO: Last but not least. What’s on the Horizon for RIXO?

RIXO: Most recently, we’ve launched into a new area, outerwear. We’re so excited about this and are loving seeing our RIXO customers style their jackets & coats! We’ve also just launched our winter pyjama collection, adorned in our new season prints. Next year’s going to be a big year for us, it’s safe to say there’s lots of exciting things to come! We’re focusing on becoming a lifestyle brand, offering womenswear across all categories, denim, linen as well as our well known printed silk dresses.
